Shikanji Recipe | How To Make Shikanji | Summer Drink
Shikanji or Shikanjvi is a traditional summer drink in India. It is also knowns as nimbupani with just basic ingredients like lemon, sugar, and black salt. This elevates energy level on hot days.In summers you can see many stalls on the roadside serving this chilled lemonade in scorching heat. A great thirst quencher and a refreshing drink. You can make it in advance and store in the fridge. Using black salt taste great as compare to normal salt because of its peculiar taste.
In a pan or pitcher or jug add water, sugar syrup, lemon juice, cumin seed powder, and salt. Mix well.
Serve chilled or with ice cubes and mint leaves.
Notes
Sugar Syrup: Add 1/4 cup sugar in 1/2 cup of water. Heat it on low heat till the sugar dissolves in water. As soon as sugar dissolved off the heat and your sugar syrup is ready. Wait for few minutes to cool it down.
Instead of water add sprite or sparkling water.
If you need to have it on fasting days replace black salt and normal salt with rock salt.
You can replace this sugar syrup with the jaggery syrup. Prepare exactly with the same measurement as sugar syrup. Be careful while having shikanji with jaggery syrup as jaggery considered to be having warm properties. I was so thirsty after having jaggery shikanji once. and for 1-2 days my stomach was upset. I had 3 glasses of jaggery shikanji in 24 hours as I made it in bigger quantity.
